Where to Sit at the Hungaroring | 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix Grandstand Guide

Your Complete Grandstand Guide | 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix

The Hungaroring has hosted the Hungarian Grand Prix since 1986 — the first Formula 1 race behind the Iron Curtain. Set in a natural valley just 20 km from Budapest, the circuit's bowl-like layout means you can see large portions of the track from almost any grandstand, making it one of the best circuits for spectators. The tight, twisting layout is often compared to "Monaco without the walls," with limited overtaking opportunities making Turn 1 the focal point for on-track action.

This guide ranks the best places to watch the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix based on viewing angle, overtaking potential, atmosphere, weather protection and value for money. The Hungaroring is compact and walkable, so it's realistic to explore different vantage points on Friday practice before committing to your chosen grandstand for qualifying and the race.

Heat warning: The Hungarian Grand Prix takes place in late July. Temperatures at the circuit regularly exceed 35°C and the Hungaroring valley traps heat with little airflow. The main Hungaroring Grandstand is the only covered option — everywhere else you will be fully exposed to the sun.

Our Top 6 Grandstands

#1 Turn 1 — Gold 3 & Gold 4 Best Overtaking
The only real overtaking spot on the circuit — where races are decided

At a circuit famous for how difficult it is to overtake, Turn 1 is the one place where drivers can make moves stick. The tight right-hander is approached via a long downhill straight with a DRS zone, creating the heaviest braking zone on the circuit. First-lap incidents are common here, and throughout the race this is where the majority of position changes happen.

Gold 3 sits slightly closer to the apex with the best close-up view of the corner. Gold 4 is marginally further back but offers a more complete view of the approach from the main straight and the corner exit. Both are elevated, giving you views across the valley to the far side of the circuit. There is very little to choose between them — both are outstanding. For many experienced Hungaroring visitors, these are the best seats at the circuit, full stop.

Best for: Overtaking, first-lap drama, elevated valley views, race-defining moments.

Overtaking potential: ★★★★★

#2 Hungaroring Grandstand (Main Straight) Only Covered Stand
The only covered grandstand — pit stops, race start, podium and shade

Formerly known as the Super Gold Grandstand, the Hungaroring Grandstand is positioned on the main straight directly opposite the pit garages. It is the only covered grandstand at the circuit — a significant advantage when temperatures exceed 35°C in the Hungarian summer. You get the full race-day experience: grid build-up, race start, pit stop action, and the podium ceremony.

The trade-off is that the pit building partially blocks views of the track behind it from lower rows. Higher rows (the top four) can see over the building to sections of the circuit beyond. The Platinum section within this grandstand offers the most central, elevated seats. The F1 Fan Zone and main food/drink area are located directly behind, making this the most convenient grandstand for facilities.

Best for: Weather protection, pit stops, race start, podium, convenience.

Overtaking potential: ★★☆☆☆

#3 Gold 1 & Gold 2 (Pit Straight) Start Line
Grid views, pit lane action and the race start atmosphere

Gold 1 and Gold 2 sit on the main straight alongside the Hungaroring Grandstand but are uncovered. Gold 1 is positioned at the end of the straight closer to Turn 1, giving you a view of the grid, the race start, and the approach to the first corner. Gold 2 sits between Gold 1 and the main grandstand, offering views of the mid-to-rear section of the starting grid and the large videowall directly opposite.

The atmosphere in this zone on race day is electric — the proximity to the grid build-up and the sound of 20 engines firing up before the start is something you feel physically. Gold 1 is the slightly better option for racing action as you can see cars braking into Turn 1 in the distance. Both have excellent access to facilities and the Fan Zone.

Best for: Race start atmosphere, grid views, pit lane, Fan Zone access.

Overtaking potential: ★★★☆☆

#4 Pit Exit 1 & Pit Exit 2 Great Value
Close to Turn 1 with pit exit rejoins adding extra drama

The Pit Exit grandstands are positioned between the main straight and Turn 1, on the outside of the track where cars exit the pit lane. This creates an additional layer of drama — you see cars on the main straight at full speed, the pit exit merging alongside, and then the heavy braking into Turn 1 just ahead of you.

Pit Exit 1 is closer to Turn 1 and offers the better racing view. Pit Exit 2 is further back towards the main straight with a clearer view of cars at top speed. Both have good elevation and the valley layout means you can see parts of the far side of the circuit. These are fan-favourite grandstands that offer excellent value — Turn 1 action at a lower price than Gold 3/4.

Best for: Turn 1 approach, pit exit rejoins, good value, valley views.

Overtaking potential: ★★★★☆

#5 Chicane Grandstands (Turns 6–7) Panoramic Views
Technical chicane with panoramic views across the final sector

The Chicane grandstands overlook Turns 6 and 7 — one of the most technical sections of the Hungaroring. The rapid changes in direction here demand precision from the drivers, and mistakes are common, particularly in the opening laps. From the elevated position, you get a sweeping view across the final sector of the circuit, with some vantage points offering glimpses of other sections of the track.

These grandstands are more affordable than the Gold zones and offer a genuinely different perspective on the racing. The area is quieter and less crowded, which some fans prefer. TV screens ensure you can follow the wider race action.

Best for: Technical cornering, panoramic views, quieter atmosphere, affordable.

Overtaking potential: ★★☆☆☆

#6 Apex 1 & Apex 2 (Turn 14) Final Corner
The final corner — where qualifying laps and overtaking setups are made

Turn 14 is the long, drawn-out final right-hander of the Hungaroring. It is a crucial corner — drivers must find the perfect line and exit speed to carry momentum onto the main straight and into the DRS zone. In qualifying, the final corner can make or break a lap. During the race, a good exit here creates the opportunity for an overtaking move into Turn 1 on the next lap.

The Apex 1 grandstand offers a close-up view of the apex where drivers experiment with different racing lines. Apex 2 is positioned slightly further along with views extending down to the main straight. Both grandstands give you a direct line of sight to the start/finish area in the distance. These are solid value options with genuinely interesting racing to watch.

Best for: Qualifying drama, race setup for overtaking, views to main straight.

Overtaking potential: ★★★☆☆

General Admission

General Admission at the Hungaroring gives you access to grass banking areas around the circuit. The valley layout means many GA spots offer surprisingly good views across multiple sections of track. GA tickets here represent excellent value compared to other European races.

Best GA Viewing Spots

Turn 1 Banking — The grass hillside above Turn 1 offers an elevated view of the main straight, the braking zone and the opening corner. This is the most popular GA area and fills quickly on race day.

Turns 4–5 Banking — The natural hillside between Turns 4 and 5 gives a panoramic view across the middle sector. Less crowded than Turn 1 and a pleasant spot to settle for the day.

Turns 11–12 Area — The banking here offers views of the short straight and hard braking into Turn 12. Less popular with GA crowds, so easier to find space on race day.

GA Tips

Shade is virtually non-existent in GA areas. Bring a parasol or umbrella, a hat, at least 2 litres of water per person, sun cream (factor 50) and a folding chair or blanket. The circuit allows you to bring food and non-alcoholic drinks. Arrive early on Sunday — the best GA spots at Turn 1 are taken by 8am.

New for 2026

Beat the Heat

The Hungaroring Grandstand (formerly Super Gold) is the only covered grandstand at the circuit. In 35°C+ heat, the shade alone may justify the premium price. All other grandstands are fully exposed.

Valley Views

The Hungaroring's natural bowl means most grandstands offer views of 60–70% of the circuit. This is unusual in F1 and means there are very few "bad" seats at this track.

Last Race Before Summer

The Hungarian Grand Prix is the final race before the F1 summer break. The atmosphere is celebratory, and teams often bring upgrades knowing there's a month to prepare for the second half of the season.

Practical Tips

Getting There

The circuit is in Mogyoród, 20 km northeast of Budapest. On race weekend, shuttle buses run from Árpád Híd metro station (M3 Blue line) directly to the circuit — this is by far the easiest option. Driving is possible with free parking available near the circuit, but arrive very early as spaces fill quickly and exit queues after the race can exceed 2 hours. Taxis from Budapest charge a fixed race-weekend rate — agree the price before departure.

What to Bring

Sun cream (factor 50), a hat, at least 2 litres of water, comfortable shoes, ear protection, a portable phone charger, and cash (not all food vendors accept cards). You can bring food and non-alcoholic drinks into the circuit. A small umbrella doubles as sun shade.

Budapest

Budapest is one of the best F1 weekend cities on the calendar. The thermal baths (Széchenyi, Gellért), the ruin bars of the Jewish Quarter, and the Danube river cruise are all must-dos. Accommodation is affordable compared to Western European GP cities — book a hotel in District V, VI or VII for easy access to both nightlife and the metro to the circuit. The city comes alive during GP weekend with F1-themed events, bar screenings and fan zones.
