About

Zandvoort is a high-speed rollercoaster ride through the sand dunes of the North Sea coast. Originally opened in 1948, it returned to the calendar in 2021 after a 36-year hiatus, largely due to the "Max Verstappen" effect. The track is famous for its unique banking—specifically Turn 3 (Hugenholtz) and the final turn (Arie Luyendyk), which are steeper than the banking at Indianapolis. It is a narrow, old-school circuit where a single mistake leads to a gravel trap, making it a true driver's favorite.

Location

The circuit is located in the seaside resort of Zandvoort, just west of Haarlem. Zandvoort is a classic beach town with wide sandy shores and dozens of "strandpaviljoens" (beach clubs). Nearby Amsterdam (30km away) offers world-class museums, canals, and nightlife for those wanting a city-break alongside the race.
Location fact
To accommodate F1’s return, the banking in the final corner was built at an angle of 18 degrees—roughly twice as steep as the curves at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Travel Information

Airlines: Fly into Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS).

Trains: The Zandvoort aan Zee station is the most efficient way to arrive. Trains run directly from Amsterdam Centraal every few minutes on race weekend.

Roads: The N200 and N201 are the main access roads, but they are closed to private cars during the event.

Local Transport: Zandvoort is a "car-free" event. Fans are encouraged to use the "Dutch Mountain" (the train) or join the thousands of locals who cycle to the track.

Fan Culture, Viewing & Weather

Fan Culture: The "Orange Army" creates a stadium atmosphere. Expect flares, DJ sets (Tiësto often performs), and a continuous party vibe.

Best Viewing: The Arena Section (Turns 11 & 12) offers a stadium feel where the noise of the crowd is deafening as cars navigate the chicane.

Weather: Late August usually brings pleasant beach weather (20°C), but the North Sea wind can be fierce and sand-filled.
