About

Held on the man-made Notre Dame Island, the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve is a high-speed "stop-start" challenge. It first hosted F1 in 1978, with local hero Gilles Villeneuve taking a historic victory. The most famous characteristic is the "Wall of Champions" at the final chicane, which has famously claimed victims like Schumacher, Hill, and Vettel. It is a low-downforce track that punishes brakes and rewards bravery.

Travel Information

Airlines: Fly to Montreal-Trudeau (YUL). Air Canada and Air France have major hubs here.

Trains: The Gare Centrale (Central Station) connects to the Metro.

Roads: The Jacques-Cartier Bridge and Pont de la Concorde connect the island, but cars are highly discouraged.

Local Transport: The Metro (Yellow Line) to Jean-Drapeau station is the only way to go. It’s an efficient, high-frequency "lifeline" to the circuit.

Fan Culture, Viewing & Weather

Fan Culture: One of the most passionate and "knowledgeable" crowds in F1. The city turns into a giant street party on Crescent Street and Saint-Laurent Boulevard.

Best Viewing: The Hairpin (Grandstands 15, 21, 24) creates a massive amphitheater atmosphere and is the best spot for overtaking and photos.

Weather: June in Montreal is beautiful but temperamental; it can be 30°C or a torrential "monsoon" shower within an hour.
