About

The Bahrain Grand Prix, held at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, was the first-ever F1 race in the Middle East, debuting in 2004. Designed by Hermann Tilke, the circuit is famously built in the middle of a desert, requiring a special adhesive spray on the surrounding sand to keep it from blowing onto the track. It is a "power circuit" characterized by long straights and heavy braking zones, making it one of the best for overtaking. Since 2014, the race has been held under spectacular floodlights, transforming the desert night into a glowing theater of speed.

Location

Sakhir is located about 30km south of the capital, Manama. While the track is isolated, the "local town" atmosphere is found in Zallaq, home to luxury beach resorts and the Al Areen Wildlife Park. Manama itself is a fascinating blend of modern skyscrapers and traditional souqs (markets).
Location fact
The podium finishers are presented with "Waard," a non-alcoholic rosewater beverage, instead of the traditional champagne, in respect of local customs.

Fan Culture, Viewing & Weather

Fan Culture: Expect a mix of local hospitality and international fans. The "Village" behind the Main Grandstand offers camel rides and local crafts.

Best Viewing: Turn 1 Grandstand is the place to be; it offers a view of the heavy braking into the tight right-hander where most of the overtakes happen.
