Essential F1 Test Day Information
- Not every team turns up at every scheduled test – this is definitely the case in the winter months where maybe only some local teams will feel the need to hit the track to try out their car. But generally speaking test days are more for out right dry running.
- Each test last’s either 2 or 3 days. But this is never guaranteed as teams do some times pack up early, some times even before they’ve run a car.
- They always use the Grand Prix circuit for public test days but you can only access a small section of it. At most – the general public will get access from Copse corner (see track guide) round until Abbey chicane. So in total that is the complex last section and the pit straight affectively. The maximum access days are ones where a lot of people have turned up, most probably due to numerous teams testing.
- Refreshments are available on the day from a burger van or an equivalent but expect to pay common event prices due to the lack of competition on these days. We recommend taking a pack lunch or:
- Visit the local town of Towcester which is a short walk or drive over by pass. There is a pub down the hill in the centre of the village called ‘The White Horse’. The pub is owned and run by dedicated motorsport fans so you can always expect a nice welcome coming in from a test or race weekend, plus the food and drink is good!
- Always go the main gate at Silverstone as this is the only way in on test days.
- If you feel you like you could gain media access, you'll need to contact Silverstone a day or two before to gain accreditation.
