Summary
Despite suffering a late technical failure, Felipe Massa set the pace on day 1 of this weeks Silverstone test, setting the fastest time in both the morning and afternoon sessions. His time of 1m 20.188s was just under three tenths quicker than second fastest Heikki Kovalainen. Robert Kubica was third fastest.
Nelson Piquet Jnr had mixed day with a delayed start due to a technical problem followed by some quick lap times. However, the afternoon session was red flagged when his car broke down again on the Start/finish straight.
Sebastian Vettel only managed 35 minutes track time after fuel problems emerge with his torro Rosso and he took no further part in the days action.
