Formula E is the world’s first single-seater car racing series for fully electric cars. It aims to pave the way for a new generation of electric cars that are powerful, environment-friendly and capable of going the distance of an e-prix race.

“Formula E is ‘disruptive motorsport’. Absolutely everything is new and pioneering. We’re trialling the unknown – the beginning of the electric motor sports era.”

The Formula E championship has the approval of the FIA, the governing body of the Formula 1 series. Spanish businessperson, former politician, and CEO of Formula E Alejandro Agag, had this to say on the introductory E1 series, “The inaugural Formula E season was a huge success. It’s main objective was to bring electric cars closer to the people and to make them more accessible. We have certainly done this and look forward to building on this in season two.”

Apart from the sleek electric cars, what makes the Formula E series unique, are the racing tracks. The races take place on city-centre street circuits, offering a new and thrilling experience of watching motor racing in a city environment.

The intention behind hosting the races in the city instead of the traditional racetracks is to help the public see the potential of using electric cars. Encouraging the spectators to leave their cars at home and take public transport to reach the racing venue, is yet another way to make the sport more environment-friendly.
