What’s new in 2012?
The 2012 F1 season will be the longest on record, currently scheduled to start on the 11th of March at Bahrain, and finish on the 25th of November at Sao Paulo, Brazil. Although 21 races are scheduled, an agreed cap of 20 means Turkey is likely to be dropped but this is not confirmed as of yet.
Bahrain had to cancel its race in 2011 due to civil unrest in the country. Hopefully the race can go ahead in 2012, despite some negative press on the nations handlings of government protesters. Sao Paulo regains the last round status which is an immensely popular decision amongst F1 fans. The circuit is old school and has a far better atmosphere than the new Abu Dhabi circuit on Yas Island.
The one brand new circuit on the 2012 schedule is the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas. For years, Formula 1 has been trying to crack the American market and the arrival of the round in Austin will hopefully be a decent stepping stone to achieving that goal.
