I think the driving experience is much much better than 2010 - you don't get away with half as much as you did last year. I did a full distance race...

I have played the game for less than an hour and here are my first impressions.
- i've got the settings on the hardest possible, am driving in cockpit view and also have the majority of the on screen display turned off. I want to get as close to the real thing as possible! So....
- the force feedback through the steering wheel has been improved dramatically. In honesty it was pretty crap last year but you get use to it. Finally the wheel weight and reactions to the track, curbs and grass feels realistic. It's a lot to get use to straight off the bat!
- racing without traction control last year was a challenge exiting slow corners as you would spin and burn the back tyres from being too keen on the throttle, but generall you could get away with murder. This year it's all different! With all that horsepower, you can start to spin the back wheels if your line is poor or you get out of shape in the high speed turns. It can get wild at times! F1 2011 rewards smooth driving a good racing line no doubt!
- the AI are super fast. I could destroy them in legend mode with all aids turned off in '10, but i'm way off the pace at the moment and have loads of lap time to find. This is superb as winning the title in a toro rosso wasn't ideal in '10!
- changing gears, steering and trying to deploy KERS at the same time is incredibly challenging. Press it mid corner with your foot down and that back will step out! It's hard to get use to but so exciting when you nail it!
- in cockpit view you can see the drivers legs move on the pedals. I don't remember than last year. Great gimmick!
- accleration off the start line seems much more rapid. I really struggled in '10 to get a clean fast start without either spinning up, or bogging down. Not anymore!
- the new car indicator is clever (one white arrow per car attacking you), but I've turned it off, makes it way to easy to block a car in advance of a move! I like using the mirrors or reacting after being surprised to see a nose appear left or right of you
- SUPERB FEATURE: driving offline makes a dusty/dirty sound and your tyres then get seriously messed up with marbles and crap. Grip obviously decreases!
- DRS: i only managed one attempt to use the wing flap as i was usually over a second behind the next car. I believe a beeping sound occurs when you can use it. I used it on a HRT that i was massively faster than anyway so was a bit a of dud move. More experimenting needed!
- driving off the track through grass and gravel has been improved a lot. It was rubbish last year, especially gravel which was seemingly "canned" in how it stopped then directed you towards the circuit
I think that's enough for now. Next time I play it will be career mode and I'll make good use of the Free Practice sessions to better my times!
Look out for Sean Russell's review within a day or so.

Only had a quick stint at it too but overall I am impressed with the improvements that have been made.
* Team radio feels a lot more realistic, however time will tell if this gets repetitive.
* Handling is a lot trickier, struggle to hold onto the car coming out of sharp corners.
* You can actually see the start lights, rather than having to guess when to rev if you aren't on the first 3 rows!
* I use the racing line aid to learn tracks, this has been tweaked...think I prefer the 2010 version at the mo but it could just be a time thing.
* Haven't used DRS yet but KERS works a treat, just got to remember to use it!
* Agree with Jimmy about the acceleration of the start line comment. I went from 6th to 1st at India using KERS off the grid, too easy? Did have AI on medium or something though so probably need to knock it up a notch.
Finally, had a go at the Indian track and really enjoyed it, very quick and smooth, should be a cracking race in a couple of months. Just a shame you cant race Bahrain.

In terms of the start lights, do you see some fake overlaid lights well? I can't seem to turn them off. GOOFY!!!

Again, only had a quick practice around Spa, very good first impressions.
Graphics look far sharper than before.
Glad they got rid of that annoying engineer and replaced him with a slightly more posher one.
Car handling seems ever so slightly floaty, i found it very easy to lose it at Eau Rouge and Blanchemont, you can really feel the car get light at high speed corners, seems more realistic and makes you have to think for every corner.
Brakes seem much more responsive and you can brake a lot later into the corner than before.
Nice that i can attack the kerbs a bit more.
My god my hand hurts after using DRS and KERS in every lap. My mind is buzzing, trying to remember to use both out of corners and on straights. Im sure it will get easier but it makes laps very busy. After a quick practice i just couldnt wait to get to a race so i would only have to use DRS the once per lap.
AI seems a lot faster, i went straight to expert and was at least 3 seconds off the pace after doing a few laps. Im sure it will come.
All in all, it seems to be amazing, looking forward to a career mode, unless i get arthritus in my hand due to KERS and DRS

As Sean says in his review, the graphics have been made bold and brighter, reacting to the criticism and dropping the dull and hazy look of 2010.
I wonder if they can ever do 1080p graphics or with the rate of movement and limitations of the PS3, would that would be impossible. I think they could do it, but the loading times would be at least double (bit like GT5 running off the disc, and not the hard drive)

The racing line is absolutely useless...can't honestly condemn the racing line enough, it is CRAP! ive got the setting on the hardest possible except for the racing line as the tracks have changed a little and its a nightmare trying to anticipate when to break. useless...

How so Matt? I've never used it but heard it's different this year. Fancy explaining the problem? I saw in the menus 2D and 3D.... ?

Well what a let down looks good sounds horrible just as did 2010 there a so many track cutting bugs to name just one chicane at montreal! even when racing online why the cinematics of podium in parc feme? this even happens if you finish out of the top 3, what happened to the ready option to start the race when server has enough people in it? why the 30 second restart everytime a new person joins the server its annoying. why are the loading times so much longer than 2010 you find most people have left he server before it goes back to the lobby because they cant be bothered to wait.
Is there any chance of a refund this game is a better looking version of 2010 but thats where the improvements stop for me id rate it 4/10 why cant codmasters look at rfactor and lfs and make a game as good looking as f12011 and as rewarding to drive as lfs?

I think the driving experience is much much better than 2010 - you don't get away with half as much as you did last year. I did a full distance race last night and the concentration needed to stop little errors creeping in was immense.
I can't comment on the online stuff yet, I'm that far into testing!
