Brazilian GP Race Report: Jenson Button wins the 2009 World Championship
Jenson Button has become the tenth British Formula 1 World Champion in history after driving from 14th on the grid to 5th in the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Including me, most people said the championship would not be decided today in Sao Paulo and we would have to wait two more weeks for a title show down in Abu Dhabi.

Who could blame us, with Jenson Button 14th on the grid and his main championship rival, Rubens Barrichello, on pole position at his home Grand Prix.
Despite a promising early stint from Rubens, his home race gremlins seemed to creep in. After falling to 3rd position behind Mark Webber and Robert Kubixa, contact with Lewis Hamilton near the end of the race gave him a puncture which finally demoted him to eighth place.
The championship was then Jenson's to drive home to...
A champions drive from Jenson Button
Much has been said over the last few weeks about Jenson Button's recent race performances in which he has only achieved the small points. Where had his demon form from the start of the season disappeared to people asked?
In fact, so much has been said about his lack lustre performances that a lot of people really started believing if he won the championship just by purely holding on and not gunning for race wins - would he really be a worthy champion?
I think it's safe to say we can put a full stop on those comments now. Jenson Button has been one of the best, if not the best over takers of the season and today he pulled at 4 to 5 amazing moves which frankly, he didn't necessarily have to - but he wanted to and a world championship in Brazil, with one race to go is his reward.
He has led the championship from the first race in Australia all the way to the end of the season. That doesn't happen by luck or by a driver who is not a worthy champion. He's shown guts when being kicked mentally from race fans and the media, and managed to pick himself up and drive well enough to clinch the title.
Freaky coincidental fact
After the race, Nobert Haug from Mercedes Benz outlined what is an incredible fact about the race and championship result:
"For the second year in a row, car number 22, driven by an Englishman and powered by a Mercedes-Benz engine has finished fifth in Brazil to win the world championship - what an amazing list of coincidences!"

Excellent race and well done Jenson.
It feels like the end of season doesn't it? Abu Dhabi is a great chance for drivers to git rid of any pressures they had an put the pedal to the metal and show what they are made of.
I can't wait!!!!

Finally a decent GP, and another British (and English to boot) World Champion! Well done Jenson, and 2 fingers to all the armchair critics and doubting thomas's!

I really liked the way Jenson powered through with his quick overtaking after the safety car had gone back in, a really fine quality he has. Well done to Brawn GP though, surely a team has never made such an impact so quickly? I hope they can keep the pace in 2010 as the car in the second half of the season was severely tested by the other teams.

Quite an emotional moment, even as a spectator. With that spectacular drive, all the shock of the preseason, the frustrations of the controversies and the silliness of the politics just melted away. I think everyone was reminded why we love F1, the racing! Bring on Abu Dhabi and closing the season with a show!

i have followed jensonīs career from his last few races on f3 to this day. courage and a LOT of patience from jenson made him a deserving champion!
now whereīs my f1racing issue with jensonīs first cover? now thatīs a collectible now!
cheers!

I'm really thrilled for Jenson, and he really derserves it after his drive in Brazil. I hope that means the shackles are off in Abu Dhabi!
