Hard for Alonso not to win the championship?
“Barring any DNF’s or failure to score points the ball is definitely in the Spaniards court”
The story so far
The 2010 season has been one of the best seasons since F1 began. There are still 5 drivers mathematically able to win the championship and with only two races to go it seems logical to take a look at the probabilities of the outcome of such a phenomenal season.
F1 maths
So far this season the Championship has been lead by Massa, Alonso, Button, Webber and Hamilton but until recently it was Mark Webber that looked to be in the driver’s seat (excuse the pun) of this championship. However, with a last minute dash, Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso has taken the lead at a critical time in the championship. Not only that but he is 11 points clear of the previous favourite, Red Bull’s Mark Webber. As we come into the final two races and final two weeks of the F1 2010 season it would now appear that Fernando Alonso after driving the best I have ever seen him drive, is the resounding favourite to win the drivers title.
The statistics* are as follows:
Fernando Alonso: 61.5%
Mark Webber: 23%
Lewis Hamilton: 9.2%
Sebastian Vettel: 6%
Jenson Button: 0.4%
Barring any DNF’s or failure to score points the ball is definitely in the Spaniards court. He would only need 2 podium finishes to win the title and there is even a possibility that he could win in Brazil if there is bad luck for his other championship competitors, which judging by last race could well be the case.
Championship hopes on the line
In terms of the other championship contenders; Mark Webber has a good chance of still taking the title if Alonso does not score the ample results he needs. As for Lewis Hamilton he needs to finish within four points of Fernando Alonso to still have a crack at the title for 2010. Sebastian Vettel needs at least to beat Alonso for a shot at the title. And finally Jenson Button needs a miracle. This season has proven one thing; Formula 1 is un-predictable and even now I would not put all my money on Alonso taking his third world title. As we have seen, anything can happen.

I think an Alonso DNF could easily happen though because he has used his eighth engine for 4 races now. Reliability must be a major concern at Ferrari.
