Hamilton's title hopes fading under pressure
Lewis' DNF's
Second to Third
McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton has been fighting for the 2010 drivers championship all year long. He (along with Vettel and Alonso) was the bookies choice this year for the championship and up until recently the Brit has been driving the very best of his career so far. He has won three races and finished on the podium seven times but in the last four races he seems to have grown restless of second place and tried a little too hard to get into first in the World Championship. The 2008 World Champion has had three DNF’s one that was pure bad luck, in Hungary he had a gearbox failure but the last two were racing incident. Are these signs of an impatient Lewis?
Racing Mistakes
In Monza Lewis made an error that was reminiscent of a younger Hamilton he pushed way too hard into the corner in an attempt to overtake Felipé Massa but ended up breaking his steering rod against the Ferrari. If he had been patient I am sure he could have overtaken Massa at a further point and take third place or even higher but instead he left Italy with no more points.
In Singapore it did not seem to be any ones fault. Someone who is realy harsh may say that Mark Webber should have yielded after Hamilton had taken that place but it seemed pretty unavoidable. We have already seen this season that the championship leader Mark Webber is very stubborn and is not about to give up.
So where does this leave Lewis?
If we take the positions Lewis should have claimed in the three races he did not finish he would have two 4th places and a 3rd. that adds up to 39 points and a lead in the championship, Mark Webber would loose 4 points. So by quite a margin Hamilton would lead with 230 to Mark Webber’s 198. But in Reality Hamilton is 20 points off the lead. He is well in with a chance to win the championship but he certainly can not afford any more DNF’s

Haha, who would have thought - given his career history - that we would ever be describing Mark Webber as lucky :)

Fading and pressure - the exact 2 words I would use to describe Mark Webber's front right tyre right at the end of the race!
Lucky git.

I love the maths Sean. Lewis could have been 32 points in front - that's a race in hand!
