On Legendary ground

Lewis Hamilton who currently leads the Formula 1 world championship by 3 points is aiming for another title; winning at the four tracks that still remain from the original 1950’s season. These are the British, Monaco, Belgian and Italian Grand Prix.

It is an unofficial title that only eight drivers have managed to complete: Michael Schumacher, Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost, Jackie Stewart, Niki Lauda, Juan Manuel Fangio, David Coulthard and Jody Scheckter.

Hamilton’s prospects

Hamilton’s best result at Monza was 2nd in 2007 behind Fernando Alonso but this year Monza is widely regarded as McLaren’s race to lose. Even Red Bull team principal Christian Horner says that this track is “McLaren Territory,” but we will see if McLaren will capitalise on their supposed advantage in just over a week’s time.

Italy is thought to be the last track that McLaren will be able to dominate at, so the team really need to get the best result possible if they are to have a chance of winning this years titles. After Monza McLaren will need to find that extra speed on Red Bull and Ferrari to keep them in touch till the end of the season.

My money is on Hamilton winning this race and possibly weakening the stranglehold that Red Bull holds over qualifying with Lewis’ second pole position. But who knows? We will see soon enough.

That's really interesting, I never realised that only 8 drivers had won those four races. It's a very talented group with 26 World Championships between them!
