Could Paul Di Resta be the third Brit on the grid in 2011?
“He did beat current F1 world champion Sebastian Vettel”
Paul Di Resta
The rumour mill has been working away once again with hints of change in the Force India garage. The latest rumour to emerge is that current reserve driver Brit Paul Di Resta will be replacing Vitantonio Liuzzi alongside Adrian Sutil for the 2011 season. Liuzzi has failed to impress during his time at Force India whilst all the while Di Resta has been lurking in the shadows constantly challenging for a driving seat within the team.
Statistics
But what exactly has Paul Di Resta done to impress the team and even have a chance of ever becoming the third British driver on the grid in 2011?
Well, in his second ever season of Formula Renault UK in 2004 he finished 3rd in the title which was a pretty good start to his career. After Formula Renault the Scot moved to Formula 3 euro series which boasts champions such as Lewis Hamilton. In 2006 Paul Di Resta won the Formula 3 Euro series championship and decided that in 2007 he would move to Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM). In 2008 he finished in 2nd place, in 2009 he finished 3rd and finally in 2010 he finished 1st taking yet another championship to his name.
Analysis
There is no doubt that the 24 year old deserves a drive in Formula 1, it is just a matter of when. He has proved before that he will be competitive, after all he did beat current F1 world champion Sebastian Vettel in Formula 3 in 2006.
The change remains unofficial especially since Liuzzi has come out against media reports of his contract being terminated. He had this to say to 422race.com “My situation is clear. Force India hasn’t informed me about any change and for me only the words of the team count.”
We look forward to hearing the decision that Force India make. I for one would be ecstatic to see another Brit in the sport especially one as potentially competitive as Di Resta.

Yeah you do have a good point, but none the less it is the only comparison we have right now (as Sean said).
Who knows, we may only be a few...

Every person supporting Paul likes to mention he . But honestly, how can this be a valid indication of probable Paul's performance in F1?
When I was ten I won a vocal competition. Does it mean I am a better singer than a guy I had beaten then, even though I don't sing now, and he had released his second CD in 2010? I don't think so.
It'd be interesting to see Paul in F1, but I don't think we should expect anything really outstanding.

I know what you mean but what else do we have to compare him to at the moment?

Who knows, we may only be a few months away from getting a much better impression of how they compare!
