Could Hamilton really work with Vettel?
Lewis and Sebastian: Dream team?
Formula 1 World Champions Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel are arguably within the top three drivers on the grid at the moment (the other being Fernando Alonso). The idea of Red Bull ‘talking’ about the possibility of Lewis Hamilton joining the Milton Keynes based team got me thinking about the possibility of what would be one of the greatest pairings Formula 1 had ever seen. Sebastian Vettel’s precision and pure speed matched against Lewis Hamilton’s aggression and exciting style would be one for the ages that is for sure. I would give an arm and a leg to watch those two face off in the same car, assuming it was championship worthy.
Senna vs Prost, Alonso vs Hamilton, Mansell vs Piquet
Nobody can argue that these were three of the greatest F1 rivalries of all time. Senna vs Prost is one rivalry that I would have loved to watch (had I been born) and the same goes for Mansell vs Piquet. All four of those names mentioned are undeniably some of the greatest F1 drivers the world has ever seen. One rivalry I did get to watch was Alonso vs Hamilton in 2007. What do these three rivalries have in common? All the drivers have been world champions and the best of their generations. Whilst Senna-Prost and Mansell-Piquet was pure, exhilarating competition; Alonso-Hamilton on the other hand became very destructive for both men. If there was not such conflict between them then the Championship could well have been one of theirs. With Vettel and Hamilton Red Bull could almost guarantee the constructors but the drivers would not be so easy. Just watch them try and take a wing off one car and put it on the other, it just could not happen. The garage would split down the middle comparable to Webber-Vettel except more extreme.
Why it could not happen
Ultimately Red Bull are 100% behind their young gun Sebastian Vettel. Just like Hamilton with McLaren, Vettel has been with Red Bull for a while. For this very reason Hamilton would become a number two driver. After years of being a number one, Hamilton would not play second fiddle to anyone. He did not roll over for two time World Champion Alonso, he would not roll over for Sebastian. Also Sebastian has proven himself to be, at times, a destructive driver he is still young after all. Turkey and Belgium last year showed us why he is not yet ready for strong competition in the same car. I would love to see Vettel-Hamilton in the same car it would really be a rivalry to remember and what would be even better is if both were able to remain more than one season together, respect each other be friends off track but enemies on track. What Alonso-Hamilton lacked was mutual respect and it is what Senna-Prost had.
So what do you think? Would you love to see Hamilton vs Vettel? Or would it be too destructive?

I'd love to see that! Can you envision destruction in the pits, politically, in and among high-placed Ferrari folk, mechanics, AND on the track?
Ferrari would self-destruct in 1/2 a season! I would LOVE to watch that!

It will not happen simply because Hamilton is for McLaren what Vettel is for RedBull, they have the 110% backing of the team. We saw sparks when Alonso tried to impose his status in Lewis's territory, we have seen what happened last year between Vettel and Webber so if ever the two had to team up together it could only cost RedBull their current supriority as I'm sure these two will be taking each other out.
If there is a worthy replacement for Webber that would have to be Massa, RedBull would get him for cheap since Ferrari are already looking elsewhere and he is not a driver to overlook while available. [+ a good number 2] ;p

I think until both drivers leave there teams and go drive for other teams they'l always be boys!Mclaren and Redbull is like living @ home with ur parents for them they'l always be supported like little babys! Until they dont leave red bull and mclaren im afraid they will never grow up and me real men! U have 2 give Alonso due for leaving renault after winning back 2 back titles with them even tho he was the clear no1!

These may well be 2 of my favourite drivers in F1, Lewis for sure, Vettel I think so... but I'm not that hell bent on seeing them in the same team to be honest. I can see the appeal... but actually, I like the fact they represent the hopes and dreams of 2 competing teams and it's on their shoulders to do the business.
No team politics, no favouritism, no BOLLOCKS!

Well said, I'd much rather see them fight it out with two different teams than both with the same one :)

Whilst I'd love to see them go head-to-head in the same car, I think it's good for the sport to have the top three drivers (Alonso, Vettel & Hamilton) in three different teams because it keeps the inter-team rivalries as strong as the driver rivalries.

That is exactly how I feel as well.... Hamilton is my number 1, Vettel my number 2. But together: NO thank you.
