2011 Total Qualifying Times
2011 Total Qualifying Times
Sebastian Vettel has dominated Formula One qualifying in 2011 with three pole positions from the first three races. The Red Bull RB7 is clearly a very quick car over one lap, and its aggressive aerodynamic profiling gives the team plenty to gain from qualifying with unrestricted use of the DRS. Sebastian Vettel is also a driver on top of his game, as the total qualifying times from the opening races demonstrate.
If you combine each driver’s fastest times from the first three qualifying sessions of 2011, and calculate their total qualifying time so far this year, the scale of Vettel’s advantage becomes obvious. His total time places him 1.6 seconds ahead of Lewis Hamilton in second place, and a massive 25 seconds clear of Narain Karthikeyan at the back of the field.
The gap back to Mark Webber is also notable. Last year the total qualifying difference between Vettel and Webber over the course of the full season was just a few tenths – the closest of any team pairing. However, in 2011 Webber is already four seconds behind his teammate, and although much of that is due to his misfortune in China, it is still one of the largest gaps between teammates.
The total qualifying times also show how well Vitaly Petrov and Paul Di Resta have performed, and demonstrate just how close the midfield battle currently is.
Here are the drivers total qualifying times from the first three races of the 2011 World Championship
