Memoroable moments at the British Grand Prix

Memorable Moments

1950 : Alfa Romeo dominated the first ever World Championship Grand Prix. Ferrari did not enter because their cars were not ready.

1955 : Stirling Moss took his first ever victory in front of his home crowd after snatching the lead on the final corner of the race. He often suspected that Juan Manuel Fangio let him win but the great Argentinean never admitted to it.

1973 : Jody Scheckter spun at the end of the first lap and took eight cars with him. All three Surtees cars were taken out in the accident.

1993 : Ayrton Senna broke down on the last lap for the third year in a row. In 1992 he was lucky enough to score a lift with Nigel Mansell who had won the race, and was swamped by fans in a track invasion.

1998 : Michael Schumacher won the race in the pitlane after crossing the finish line whilst serving  a stop-go penalty. McLaren protested claiming that the penalty was taken on the warm down lap, but stewards let Michael keep his win.

2003 : Michael Schumacher pushed Fernando Alonso onto the grass at 320kph in an effort to keep him behind. It was the first of many battles between the two drivers and Alonso remembered it when he diced with the German in the years ahead.
