The British Grand Prix circuit is located on the outside of a small town in Northamptonshire called Silverstone. Although part of the race track runs through Buckinghamshire the town is actually in Northamptonshire. The county is located close to the geographical centre of England around 100km north of London and is a very rural area dotted with many historic buildings and villages. During the 19th century the region became famous for the local leather industry and was the most prolific shoe manufacturing area in the world. Access to the track via road has always been tricky and those who can afford it choose to fly by helicopter instead, making Silverstone the busiest airport in Britain on race day. Traffic access has improved with a road that bypasses the small Silverstone village but it is still not ideal. The old Jordan factory now that of Force India, is located directly across the road from the circuit.
