British Grand Prix Racing History
There is only one real tight corner on the circuit and the others are usually very fast and long, and allow for several different racing lines. In the same way that Magny Cours has always suited Ferrari due to the need for mechanical grip, Silverstone has always suited McLaren because of the need for aerodynamic grip. The superfast corners require a car to be very stable at speed and that can best be addressed with a decent aerodynamic package. McLaren have always had that and have been competitive at Silverstone in years when their car has been weak elsewhere. Other teams such as Red Bull that have a strong reliance on aerodynamics (thanks to Adrian Newey) are also quick. The circuit also requires a lot of engine power and as a result the gaps between cars can be quite large. The threat of rain is never far away and that will always spice things up. This was one of the circuits that Michael Schumacher genuinely struggled on and his only dry win at Silverstone came in 2004.
