British Grand Prix Tickets
One of the only real “classics” left on the F1 calendar, the British Grand Prix at Silverstone is one the truly special races that oozes history and passionate crowd. They were racing on an airfield around oil drums in the 1950’s – today the circuit has never looked so good and has its place in championship secured for over a decade to come.
Which British Grand Prix tickets are right for me?
With over 10 years experience in visiting the British GP, we have a wealth of knowledge on all the grandstands and viewing areas around the circuit. Ticket prices are about average compared to all the other rounds, and therefore budget will be a key factor in you deciding which British Grand Prix tickets you end up buying. Another point to consider are the changes made to the circuit in recent years. Some fresh thought should be applied in deciding where you want to stand/sit for the best possible view.
International Pit Straight: A highly popular choice
Since the introduction of the new pit lane and paddock complex in 2011, by far the most popular tickets are for the International Pit Straight. Despite these tickets costing a premium, year after year fans are enticed into choosing to have the best possible view of the start and end of the Grand Prix, as well as the numerous crucial pit stops. Silverstone also allows track invasions for the podium ceremony as well which only adds to the rush for these tickets.
Club Corner: The last turn
For 2012, Club corner grandstand tickets will also be high on the list for numerous fans, after the new final corner provided plenty of action during last year’s race. It was here that home hero Lewis Hamilton barged his way past Felipe Massa on the very last lap, in what will go down as a legendary moment in the circuit’s history. Club grandstand also has a head on view of the podium (which is by the pit entrance), so you are ideally placed to watch the winner’s national anthem and the champagne spraying after the race.
Becketts: A view too good to be true?
A grandstand well worth considering is Becketts or Club Silverstone (part of the same stand but with access to nicer food and drink!) From here you will get to see the cars sweep into Maggots, Becketts and onto the Hanger Straight. And now with the new circuit layout, you then see the cars sweep through turn one (Abbey), then again into Village and the Loop, before heading off down the Wellington Straight. That’s a lot of corners to list just from one grandstand. Have a look at the Becketts page to see for yourself.
Potential Overtaking Points
Overtaking can be seen from numerous grandstands around the circuit including Village (turn 3 heavy braking zone), Woodcote and Luffield (by looking over to Brooklands) and Stowe corner (at the end of the Hanger Straight). The DRS overtaking zone was on the Wellington straight last year meaning plenty of overtaking moves were completed into the old stadium section, at Brooklands corner.
Old Pit Straight
The National Pit Straight is where the old pit lane and start/finish line use to be. This area has changed dramatically over the last couple of years and now has a reduced selection of shops and food facilities than in it did in its heyday. It’s still more than satisfactory for fans who choose this area, just don’t expect the same buzz in this location that it use to have in years gone by.
On a tighter budget? Go for General Admission
One of the best things about Silverstone and the selection of British Grand Prix tickets is what great value General Admission passes can be for fans on a budget. For less than £160, an adult can purchase one of these weekend tickets and enjoy the view from pretty much every point around the outside of the circuit. There is a brilliant General Admission viewing area at the entry to the super fast Maggots and Becketts complex and this offers the best opportunity to see Formula 1 cars working at their hardest. You will not believe how much grip the aerodynamics is producing when the cars enter these corners! General Admission tickets can be bought for the entire 3-day weekend, or on an individual day basis as well – the choice is yours!
British F1 Tickets: enterF1 Recommends
Taking everything above into account, our personal recommendation would be the Club Corner grandstand tickets which overlook the final turn on the circuit. Here you will be in a potential overtaking zone, have a great view of the start/finish straight, pit entry and pit lane, as well as the number one seat in the entire house for the podium celebrations. If that’s not enough reason to pick it then we don’t know what is!

Where is it? British GP Location and Travel Advice
Silverstone lies in the Northamptonshire countryside and is surrounded by picturesque villages. The circuit is an easy and well sign posted 10-15 minute drive from junction 15A of the M1 motorway and is accessed via modern dual carriageways to try and cope with the race weekend traffic that the Grand Prix attracts. Silverstone is probably not the best race circuit to get in and out of in the season, but it is certainly no way the worst!
Coaches and ‘Park and Ride’
There is a rising popularity in using public transport to get in and out of the circuit, especially on Sunday evening when traffic is at its worst around Silverstone. More and more companies are organising coach tours from numerous cities around the UK, see our British Grand Prix Coach page for more information. If you feel like driving most of the way but want a speedy entrance and exit to the track, please see our Silverstone Park and Ride page for more information.
