Guide to sitting at Silverstone’s Copse Corner

Copse corner use to be the first turn on the Silverstone circuit and is potentially flat out in Formula 1. Depending on fuel loads, the drivers can often just stay in seventh gear and keep the throttle planted to the floor around the sweeping right hander.

Watching from Copse corner is awesome because you get to see how well the down force works on the modern Formula 1 car. They seem absolutely glued to the track as the aerodynamics push the car into the ground. The turn in speed can be over 280 km/h and is mind blowing to watch! You often see drivers running incredibly wide through this turn as they find the absolute limit of grip.

Copse corner was the first turn at Silverstone until the brand new pit complex was finished for the 2011 British Grand Prix. This will make Abbey the first corner, which now leads onto the recently added Arena layout.

The view from Copse C and D grandstands will certainly allow you to see down the National pit straight, but I don't think that is guaranteed from Copse E which is situated further round the corner and opposite the old pit exit.

Will there be over taking here in the race? Potentially on the first lap, but during the race it is hard to say. With the higher speeds reached through Copse corner, it has made passing even harder.
