Copse Corner | Silverstone Track Guide
Sitting at Copse Corner at Silverstone
Copse corner is the first turn on the Silverstone circuit and is nearly flat out in Formula 1 these days. Depending on fuel loads, the drivers can often just stay in seventh gear and keep the throttle planted to the floor around the right hander.
Watching from Copse corner is awesome because you get to see how well the down force works on the modern Formula 1 car. They seem absolutely glued to the track as the aerodynamics push the car into the ground. The turn in speed can be over 280 km/h and is mind blowing to watch!
There haven't been any accidents at Copse corner on the first lap scramble for a few years now but with the increased size grid in 2010, there is always the potential for problems going into any first turn of a race.
The view from Copse C and D grandstands will certainly allow you to see down the pit straight as well, but I don't think that is guaranteed from Copse E which is situated further round the corner and opposite the pit exit.
From all three grandstands you should be able to at least see the cars leaving the pits and many fans in Copse C should have a better view up the pit lane itself.
Will there be over taking here in the race? Certainly on the first lap, but during the race it is hard to say. With the higher speeds reached through Copse corner, it has made passing even harder.
