  • Frank Williams started his own racing team in 1967 called 'Frank Williams Racing Cars'. It ceased operation in 1976.
  • Williams Grand Prix Engineering started in 1978.
  • Since the team started Frank Williams has run the commercial side of the business, whilst Patrick Head has managed the technical operations.
  • The team's first car, designed by Patrick Head, scored 11 points. The team's second car won 5 Grands Prix.
  • Williams won the World Championship for the first time in 1980 with Alan Jones. The team almost defended the title in '81 but was narrowly beaten by Nelson Piquet's Brabham.
  • Since 1980, Keke Rosberg, Nelson Piquet, Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve have all won World Championships for Williams. No driver has ever won two championships for the team.
  • Ayrton Senna was tragically killed whilst driving for Williams in 1994. To this day, the Senna 'S' logo appears on every car built by the team.
  • In the late nineties, Williams had won more races per Grand Prix started than any other team in Formula One history.
  • Williams has not won the World Championship since 1997, but went close with Juan Pablo Montoya in 2003.
  • The last race victory for Williams was scored by Juan Pablo Montoya in the 2004 Brazilian Grand Prix.
  • The team's best championship position in the last four years was fourth in 2007.
  • Rubens Barrichello joins Williams in 2010, and will start his 300th race at the Japanese Grand Prix. Niko Hulkenburg is making his Grand Prix debut for the team having won the 2009 GP2 Championship.
