Rubens Barrichello
Team: Williams
F1 Debut: 1993 - South African Grand Prix
Rubens Barrichello is a Brazilian F1 driver currently driving for Williams F1.
He is the most experienced F1 driver ever with over 270 race starts to his name. His first race was the South African Grand Prix in 1993 and he made a good impression securing him a drive for subsequent seasons ahead.
During his Formula 1 career, Rubens Barrichello has driven for Jordan, Stewart, Ferrari, Honda. The latter was re-branded as Brawn GP and where he drove in 2009.
A point scorer for most of his career, Barrichello's first win came at the German Grand Prix in the year 2000 during his first year for Ferrari. He started 18th on the grid and when rain fell on part of the circuit, he gambled by staying out on dry weather tyres and therefore overtaking the two McLaren's who pitted for wets. This was Rubens's 8th season in Formula One and stands as the longest wait for a maiden victory in Formula 1.
Rubens Barrichello has achieved an overall 2nd place in the drivers championship standings twice in his career. Once in 2002 and again in 2004. Both of these were at Ferrari but it is widely known that Barrichello was contractually obliged to play 'number 2' to Michael Schumacher - the main man behind Ferrari's return to form after many years without championship success.
He moved to Honda in 2006 to try and race on a equal level with his team mate who was Jenson Button. The two shared mixed fortunes between 2006 and 2008 however Rubens Barrichello's winning days at Ferrari looked long gone.
In 2009, Honda was taken over by Ross Brawn forming Brawn GP. The team saw incredible success in 2009 with a car that showed great pace throughout the season and only struggled in the latter stages on the championship. Jenson Button became the World Champion and Rubens slipped to third in the championship standings.
With Brawn GP becoming Mercedes GP in 2010, Rubens has moved to the Williams F1 team.
