F1 Debut: 2010 - Bahrain Grand Prix

Russian domestic motorsport might not be known for its depth of talent but ‘Formula Lada’ has now produced a world class driver. Vitaly Petrov dominated a range of open-wheel championships in his homeland before spending the last four years in GP2. In 2010 Petrov will be making his Grand Prix debut, a proud achievement for someone who had to skip karting because there were no facilities available to him.

There are some suggestions that Petrov has only made it to Formula One with Renault thanks to his significant Russian sponsorship but that ignores Petrov's form in the last two GP2 series where he challenged for the title. He will be hoping to show similarly good form in Formula One.
