EnterF1 on the Sunday at the British Grand Prix 2007
The British Grand Prix 2007 has finished with a real mix of emotions and thoughts going through the nation’s heads into Sunday night.
After the euphoria of Lewis Hamilton qualifying on pole position on the Saturday – all he had to do was run a clean race and take the chequered flag. Mansell Mania could have returned in the form of Hamilton Heaven. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be.
The start of the race saw Kimi Raikkonen get a better start off the line in second but was held back by Lewis into Copse corner. After some decent opening stint pace, the red Ferrari started to reel Hamilton in.
During the first pitstops, Lewis made an error as he tried to leave the box before the lollipop went up and cost him self 2 seconds. That, along with Kimi’s electric pace lost him the lead.
Alonso then pitted after both of them and came out to lead the race! The Spaniard was slower in the second stint however, and the new form found by Kimi Raikkonen enabled him to regain the lead at the end of the second stops.
This is how the top three remained until the end of the race. Lewis Hamilton had achieved his 9th successive podium in his debut year… but he didn’t win and it came as a slight blow to the 50000 odd fans wearing white nylon Vodafone McLaren team shirts that were all so desperate to see a home winner. There’s always next year and beyond…
