Formula One on the PS3 | The NEC Autosport Show 2007 Birmingham
'Stuff' Magazine had a Sony Playstation PS3 feature on their stand this year at the Autosport International show and were showing off 3 titles that will be on immediate release in March when the console comes to the UK.
One of these games was the much anticipated, Formula One by Sonys own Studio Liverpool.
Although we have never been a fan of the PS2 F1 games due to severe lack of realism in graphics and car handling we were quite open minded by the new title appearing on a new console which is easily powerful enough to cope with the demand on what is needed to create a realistic game.
This truth is we are more impressed with what the PS3 has offered us but we only got a limited perspective on what the new game has to offer.
We gave it a quick blast round Silverstone over 6 laps with fuel set to burn at a fast rate so a pitstop was needed.
The cockpit view and T cam view are very realistic and give a great sense of immersion compared to the out side car view which makes the sense of speed and graphics looks quite goofy to be honest.
We raced it on what we can only assume was a very low ability level as there was a coloured racing line showing braking points and acceleration points. The handling was also very easy too enabling us to get away with what can only be described as sluggish driving!
We are sad to see that the pitstops in the game are still poorly done and the pitstop 'game' where by you have to press controller buttons outside the car is not as immersive as it would be to physically drive into the 'box' and watch your crew work themselves.
We are not too sure how the expert mode is going to feel in this game and we think its fair to say that it is easier to make arcade mode than a simulation mode. We are going to stay open minded about it though and do recommend having a blast when you can get your hands on a copy and PS3 to play it on!
