The Team
After the split from Williams before the beginning of the 2006 season, we saw BMW buy Sauber and this proved much to their benefit. Paying off with them finishing fifth in the constructors’ championship three places above Williams.
After pulling the fastest time out of the bag at the first Bahrain Test, (Feb 22-24), it was all change at the second.
This weeks Bahrain test, (Feb 27- Mar 1), has brought to light some major reliability problems with the gearbox and whilst the F1.07 has shown it has the pace, there are now some major concerns so close to the start of the season in 16 days time.
Nick Heilfeld
Nick Heidfeld landed BMW their first podium in their debut season and now much faith has been put into the fact that, having the experience of a full season under his belt, he can chase for that all-important win.
Already topping testing above the front-runners at the Sakhir, he is proving that this is worthy of the team to do so.
But can they now over come the problems that have arisen this week and give him the car he deserves.
Robert Kubica
Robert Kubica was a shining star in 2006 gaining a podium in only his third GP race. Hailed as the drive behind his teammate to out perform him, Robert has taken it all in his stride.
He has out performed Nick once in winter testing this year. But his aggressive driving manner may be smothered by the Bridgestone compound.
